Conditions We Treat
We treat a wide variety of ocular inflammatory diseases at RMU. Our primary focus is on uveitis, but we also take care of patients with macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and ocular surface diseases like dry eyes, all of which have an inflammatory basis.
Uveitis can affect the front of the eye, and we see and treat patients with anterior uveitis, iritis, scleritis, peripheral ulcerative keratitis, and interstitial keratitis. Many of these diseases are autoimmune and are treated with steroid-sparing immunomodulatory therapies, though some can be due to viruses and other infections as well.
We see a complex variety of diseases that affect the back of the eye as well, including pars planitis, VKH, retinal vasculitis, white dot syndromes, and rare diseases like autoimmune retinopathy. RMU is proud to offer the latest diagnostic technology, including fluorescein and indocyanine green angiography, electroretinography, visual field testing, and OCT, to most accurately diagnose and monitor your condition. Dr. Dacey has a special interest in birdshot retinochoroidopathy, authoring a book on the subject with Dr. Stephen Foster in 2010.
Inflammatory diseases can also affect the outside of the eye and the orbit. We work with oculoplastics and orbital specialists to take care of patients with ocular cicatricial pemphigoid, orbital pseudotumor, and orbital myositis.
Coordinating care with other specialists is a critical part of taking care of uveitis. Dr. Dacey works with a large network of rheumatologists, neurologists, GI specialists, and other medical providers, and works closely with glaucoma, cornea, neuro-ophthalmologists, and pediatric ophthalmologists to manage the medical and surgical care for uveitis patients. For patients living further from Denver, Dr. Dacey can co-manage with your local ophthalmologist to continue your treatment plans locally.
Dr. Dacey prescribes and manages all forms of systemic immunosuppression to prevent uveitis flares and hopefully bring patients to a longterm remission. If you have an additional systemic disease, such as rheumatoid arthritis or ankylosing spondylitis, we will work and communicate with your other specialists to find the best therapeutic options for both your uveitis and systemic conditions. The team at RMU has extensive experience in working with insurances to obtain authorizations for all forms of immunosuppressive medications.
